Hi there. I’m Bethany.
I am a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP) – a title that I pretty much always need to explain. There aren’t many of us out there.
First off, I am not a doctor (although I hope to be one someday!). I am a Master’s Level practitioner licensed by the State of California to provide educationally and occupationally related services – that clears it all up, right? 😉
LEPs are licensed through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, the same folks who license Marriage Family Therapists, Clinical Social Workers, and Professional Clinical Counselors.
To become an LEP you need to have a background as a credentialed school psychologist for several years and pass (in my opinion) a big scary test.
If you poll LEPs, you’d probably discover that there is a lot of career diversification. Some open private practices, some stay at school districts, and others become professional speakers or trainers. There really are a lot of possibilities.
As an LEP, I chose to kind of do all of those things, and I love every bit of it.
If you’d like to learn more about the profession, you can learn more at the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or California Association of School Psychologists websites.
Blessings!
